Twenty years after Al Gore’s apocalyptic movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” the Trump administration in the USA has put the final nail in the coffin of the lie that scared a whole generation into believing the planet was about to explode in flames if they kept using fossil fuels.

The inconvenient truth is that the only flames we’ve encountered are wind turbines catching fire and starting bushfires in Australia and wildfires in the USA.

Gore’s film featured many errors and false predictions – here are just a few:

The “Snows of Kilimanjaro”: Gore stated that the snow and ice fields atop Mount Kilimanjaro would be completely gone “within a decade” i.e. by 2016.

It still snows there and the ice fields still exist. Moreover, scientists now believe that the ice that has been lost is primarily due to local deforestation drying out the air, rather than global warming.

The film also featured a famous scene where Gore used a cherry picker to show carbon dioxide (CO2) levels rising to 600 parts per million (ppm) within 50 years i.e. by 2056. Atmospheric scientists currently estimate that hitting 600 ppm is unlikely to happen – if at all – until the end of the century.

Meanwhile, the additional CO2 is greening our planet and increasing food production.

In speeches surrounding the film’s release, Gore cited projections suggesting that the Arctic Ocean could lose all its summer sea ice by as early as 2014. That hasn’t happened – and is not likely to do so any time soon.

Then there were scientific misattributions and exaggerations such as these:

The film used devastating footage of Hurricane Katrina (2005) and implied that global warming was the direct cause of the storm.

Climate scientists agree that science does not support blaming a single weather event entirely on climate change.

Furthermore, broader predictions that global warming would immediately cause a dramatic rise in hurricane and cyclone frequency and intensity have not materialized.

Gore also claimed that polar bears “have been drowning in significant numbers” due to melting ice.

This claim was based on a single, isolated study of four polar bears that drowned during an unusually violent Arctic storm. There is no evidence that this was anything more than just a one-off event.

Polar bears have actually increased in number in several locations (see image below).

Decreased numbers have largely been as a result of increased commercial activities, conflicts with people, pollution, disease, inadequate habitat protection, and excessive hunting for food or sport.

There is no proof that minor global warming has had any major impact on polar bears.

And it didn’t end there – Gore also started the lies relating to sea-related issues:

The film featured a dramatic graphics package simulating a 20-foot (6-metre) sea level rise that would completely submerge major coastal economic zones like Manhattan, Florida, San Francisco, the Netherlands, and Shanghai.

Gore framed this as an immediate consequence of the Greenland or West Antarctic ice sheets breaking apart.

Scientists criticised this for failing to provide a realistic timeframe. While a 20-foot rise is a physical possibility if those ice sheets completely melted, mainstream climate models project that such a process would take centuries or millennia, not decades.

Current consensus estimates look closer to roughly one foot (30cms) of sea level rise by 2100.

Gore asserted that residents of low-lying Pacific nations were evacuating to New Zealand due to sea level rise.

There is no evidence of any such climate-refugee migration or evacuations having occurred since the time of the film’s release in 2006.

Many of the Pacific islands are actually increasing in size, as indicated in separate studies by University of Auckland, Simon Fraser University in Canada, and La Rochelle Université in France.

Rescinding the “endangerment finding” in the USA will save the American people US$1,300,000,000,000 in crushing regulations, with the EPA projecting an average saving of US$2,400 per vehicle and further savings on farm machinery, soon to be freed from the complex extra circuitry required to restrict emissions.

It’s great that commonsense has finally returned to energy policy in the USA.

Cheap, abundant energy has fueled prosperity throughout the world, but charlatans citing pseudoscience have conspired to send us back to the dark ages with hyperbolic predictions that never eventuate.

As we keep sailing past the various doomsday deadlines set by climate hucksters from Al Gore to Greta Thunberg, the public has been waking up to the hoax.

Net Zero policies adopted in Europe, Canada and Australia - with their blind reliance on wind and solar - have failed, as witnessed in Spain when blackouts occurred as a result of their socialist government’s obsession with renewables (see image below).

Add the huge new demand for power by data processing centres underpinning artificial intelligence (AI) and the climate fiction has become impossible to sustain.

Meanwhile, just quietly, while everyone was gushing tears over a two-year extension to a fifty-year-old Australian coal-fired plant, China has added a gargantuan number of brand-new coal plants.

More than 50 large coal-fired power plants were connected to the China grid in 2025.

China has effectively added in just four months all the coal power Australia has built in the last 50 years.

These coal plants in China are only being used at 50% capacity, but if it needs to ramp up its energy supply, as for example in a time of war, China could double it within days.

So, if wind and solar are booming in China … why is it building so many new coal plants?

The answer is, China’s industrial dominance is built on cheap, reliable and abundant coal-fired power.

And while the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) presents itself as a champion of wind and solar, it is far more interested in flogging wind turbines and solar panels to naïve western democracies than it is on attempting to run on nothing but sunshine and wind.

The delusion that renewables can provide the energy required by humanity into the future is still being promoted by ignorant politicians in countries like Australia.

They have no sense of reality – preferring instead to blindly follow left-wing ideology.

In a misguided attempt to ‘save the planet’, they are deliberately destroying valuable arable land and pristine countryside as well as causing hardship to people living in regional areas and creating huge additional cost-of-living pressure on all of us.

Meanwhile, our planet’s climate continues to evolve as it always has. It will continue to become a little warmer and then it will reverse and become colder – as it has since our planet’s creation.

And nothing has been achieved despite all the billions of dollars wasted trying to achieve Net Zero.

It’s time Australia followed the example set by the USA and abandoned Net Zero as well as the ridiculous Paris Agreement.
